Some definitions
- Configuration
- is the template/pattern/policy to describe infrastructure. The configuration describes the current state of the system resources and affects system function and performance.
- Management (IT)
- is the templates/patterns/policies production for concrete purpose and control for their execution.
- Configuration management
- is the management of IT infrastructure to improve system function and performance. Configuration management tidily coupled with changes.
- Change (IT)
- movement of the system state (operation). Can be scheduled or initiated by event. Set of changes groups patch.
- Patch
- group of changes with low significance for the system.
- Release
- group of patches, which have high significance for the system.
- Release management
- is the management of releases. Coupled with terms: patch and release.
